Guitarist - Composer - Producer
Øssi Wika

Wika Group

Wika Trio was formed as a three-piece instrumental rock group after Wika's previous hard rock band, Madboy, failed to take off. Having written instrumental compositions since 1985, Wika was inspired by the growing trend of guitarists releasing instrumental records, such as Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani. He brought in Yngve Dalen, his former drummer from earlier projects, and Steinar Schanke Eikum, an accomplished bass player and founding member of the Norwegian hard rock band TNT.

The group began rehearsing Wika's original material alongside instrumental adaptations of cover tunes. In 1992, Rolf Hoff Baltzersen took over as bassist after Eikum's departure and continued with the group until it folded in late 1994. Despite efforts to self-release a CD, financial challenges and continued rejections of public grants to help finance the release led to the group's dissolution in 1994.

Fast forward 30 years, and Wika is currently busy recording all this unreleased material for a future release. This is part of a larger resurrection of all his past music projects, finally bringing them to completion. A release date is TBA.
